4cE network extended: STM-16 link connects Austria and Bulgaria

Austrian 4cE member EVN added new regions to the 4cE network map. A 2.5 Gbps capacity state-of-the-art STM-16 link between the Austrian capital, Vienna, the Bulgarian capital, Sofia, and Bulgaria’s second-largest city, Plovdiv, was installed by EVN in June 2007. Points of Presence (PoPs) in Sofia and Plovdiv allow for the termination of long-distance carriers˛ services and the provision of connections into the local telephone network.

Plovdiv, the endpoint of the new connection, is situated 125 kilometers South-East of Sofia, in the Upper Thracian Plain region. The city in the central part of South Bulgaria is one of the oldest in Europe and, today, the second largest of the country.
